Jaw pain is more common than you might imagine, which is why we are pleased to offer an innovative and modern solution using ‘Cerezen’ here at Hughes & Owen.
People who suffer from jaw pain regularly are often diagnosed with something called TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders) which recognises that the root cause of the pain is an issue with the temporomandibular joint; the joint that connects the jaw to the skull. The symptoms of TMD can be very uncomfortable and painful, causing symptoms like jaw pain, headaches and neck pain. Cerezen seeks to retrain the position of the jaw to relieve these symptoms.
Your temporomandibular joint is a hinge that connects your jaw to your skull and it is one of the hardest working parts of the body. Facial expressions, yawning, laughing, talking, chewing and breathing all need the temporomandibular joint, so it isn't hard to see how hard it works each and every day. It isn't fully known why people get TMD but it is thought contributing factors could be:
Common symptoms of TMD are varied and include issues like pain and soreness of the face and around the jaw, issues with the flexibility of the joint, lock-jaw, popping of the jaw, tired facial muscles, issues with eating, swelling, headaches, earache and tinnitus.
Cerezen is a device that has been proven to be an effective treatment for TMD. It works by retraining the jaw to sit in a relaxed position which should then relieve the symptoms of TMD. When you have Cerezen treatment, two inserts sit inside your ear. These inserts are hollow so you can still hear and nobody will be able to tell you are wearing them. You will need to wear them at all times apart from when you participate in contact sports, swim or shower.
The first step to getting this innovative jaw pain treatment is a consultation with your dentist who will arrange for a trained audiologist to take an impression of your ear canals. The Cerezen devices are then made specifically for your ears using the latest in 3D printing technology.
We usually receive the inserts within two weeks of the impressions being taken, at which point we will invite you back for fitting.
There’s no need to put up with ongoing jaw pain. Call the team at Hughes and Owen to see how we can help.
